RG 2025 Final
I think about this match at least once a week (It hasn't even been a year). This match had everything: quality, drama, you get it.
This was Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz' first meeting in a Grand Slam final. I knew it was going to be fire. Between my tea, my phone, the screen, my eyes alternate between the three. Doesn't help being an Alcaraz fan.
1st set: It's alright. He'll win the second set.
2nd set:
- 1-4 down: This is bad. He really is going to continue persevering??
- 6-6: Please win this tiebreak. pLeaSEEE
3rd set: Thank God he won this set.
4th set:
- Sinner pummels with his crazy, mechanic, consistent shots: He's losing oh he's losing (severe stress)
- 3 championship points down: Aight I'm turning off my TV
- Alcaraz survives: WHAT IN THE WORLD sighs and sits down again
- Alcaraz breaks: NO WAYYY
- Tiebreak: What am I seeing?? watches the RG crowd crazy while I am severely sleep deprived yet I need to continue
5th set:
- Alcaraz in a lead: YES The turns have tabled
- Sinner catches from 5-4 down: HOLYYY (My respect for Sinner went up that day)
- Tiebreak begins: prays profusely It was my first time witnessing a super tiebreak. I literally thought the game is played to 7 points (I was wrong)
- Alcaraz played an incredible volley-get of a dropshot return from Sinner at 2-0. Absolutely crazy.
- 7 POINTS IN A ROW. I thought right there then he had already won. The players haven't celebrated yet. I was confused but I kept watching. I knew he was going to win. He was in clutch mode.
- Sinner wins his first two points. A nervous chuckle.
- A remarkable forehand to win the match- Alcaraz bursts into tears, Sinner throws a thousand year stare to process what the match had been.
I check the time. I had been watching a 5 hours and 29 minutes of a tennis match. The day had already turned anew. I went to bed, also still trying to process what I had just witnessed.
