a-dot

fine, i'm digital note-taking

I've owned an iPad in the past. It is an iPad 8th generation with the 1st generation Apple Pencil. It was great except that I kept getting distracted by YouTube and Netflix (after all what is it for?) and my handwriting looked arguably worse digitally. At some point, I dropped it and went back to pen and paper.

Using a tablet has plenty of friction, one has to turn it on first, tap the screen with some steps to enter their desired notetaking app and notebook. Unlike pen and paper, you can use the power of gravity to get to your desired page and then write. It's also great for my eyes because I don't have an LCD blasting all over my face. And most importantly, the feeling when you write with a pen can't beat any tablet. I sticked to these reasons for couple of years. Then I realized (after spending some time in uni) that my notes are scattered everywhere. I can't seem to find the paper of my answers for a specific homework that I've done.

This is the downside of pen and paper. This could be avoided if I was diligent enough to carefully organize my notes but we know that is wishful thinking. I have come full circle but with a new approach. I got a new tablet, S9 FE, an Android tablet with the S-pen which I preferred more than the Apple Pencil. The S-pen offers a softer feel when writing and it does not need to be charged which is a bonus. I also bought the tablet because with Android, I can completely customize the user experience however I wanted it to be.

Here's how I did it. I used the AIO launcher (if you don't know the world of these launchers, they basically allow you to change your home-screen UI). AIO Launcher is boring and that's exactly the point. I did not install YouTube and Netflix this time. I basically transformed it to just a notetaking device. Well in technicality, not note-taking. I write my answers for assignments and homework inside the device but I don't take notes during lectures in the device.

To put it simply, anything spontaneous or on-the-go meant pen and paper otherwise the tablet. Even after all this, I still prefer writing on a paper with a pen but that's fine. Organization takes a higher priority over my pleasure for tactile feel.
